Hampshire Grand Prix Report

On a warm, sunny but breezy evening the 5th Hampshire Grand Prix athletics event took place at Down Grange and the events saw some fantastic performances notched up by Club members.

The 300 m saw Mair Edwards produce one of the best performances in Great Britain this year winning in a new PB of 39.40 sec in the under 17 race while Ben Pattinson was equally dominating running 36.67 in his heat of the under 15s. Ben had earlier run a PB of 11.65 in a heat of the 100 m to produce a fine double. Iona Irvine was also in fine form in the under 13 girls events producing a 13.26 PB in the 100 m just behind the GB number 1, then a PB in the 200 m recording 27.72 and finally a 1.51 m winning leap in the High Jump another PB to place her 6th in the National rankings.

In the Senior 800 m, Hayden Carter was the winner in 1.53.81, the breezy conditions just keeping him away from a seasons best. There were numerous PBs in the 800 m races with the pick being Rebecca Bullock, 2nd in race 4, the under 17 running 2.11.54 to go 11th in the National rankings while Devon Brimecome won the Senior 400 in 61.82.

On the Field there was another set of fine performances with Ryan Bonifas winning the Senior High Jump clearing 2.05 while Malachi Gair went over 1.90 in the under 17 competition. Kai Ruffle was another winner in the under 15 Long Jump, leaping 5.46. On an evening when 76 of the Clubs athletes took part, a series of Personal Bests were set up and the athletes high lighted the talent they process.
