Coaching & Officials

Coaching – Interested in starting to coach or to enhance existing qualifications?

UK_Athletics_400x400BMHAC has a large membership and has several hard-working, unpaid athletics coaches who have earned accreditation from our sports governing body – UK Athletics. See the UK Athletics website to find out what is involved in becoming a coach, or contact the committee for more information.

There are a number of coaching courses being advertised on the England Athletic Web Site. The Club does have some money allocated for training so an application can be made to the BMHAC committee for approval if you are interested.

Officiating – Interested in Becoming an Official?

Every athletics competition needs a team of officials to make sure results are verified and recorded accurately, as well as making sure everyone sticks to the rules, plays fair and stays safe. Basingstoke and Mid Hants AC has an  enthusiastic and dedicated team of volunteer officials, but with lots of competitions, especially in the summer, we need more. Becoming an official is a great way to support the club, learn more about athletics and get a privileged front seat in watching competition. Many of our officials are parents of athletes current and past who enjoy getting involved rather than just watching competition from the sidelines.  There are three main types of official – track, field and timekeepers – all are essential and without them we simply can’t run our own competitions or participate in leagues as the club also must  supply volunteer officials at away matches too.

If you are interested, the best way to start is to volunteer to help out at one of the competitions, it’s a chance to understand what’s involved before going any further. Training is available to get qualified which the club will pay for, and you will also get a club t shirt to wear.
