Basingstoke Athletes help Hampshire win medals.
A total of 11 BMHAC runners represented Hampshire in the South of England Inter County Cross Country Championship held at Horspath, Oxford on the 7th December and in the process helped Hampshire win a number of team medals.
The best placing by a Basingstoke member came in the Under20 category where Maddie Deadman finished 3rd in a time of 23m15s. On a dry day for a change but with still plenty of mud under foot, Maddie started strongly and maintained the high pace through to the finish, and this position helped Hampshire to win the U20 Women's gold medals.
Early on in the day Macy Connolly produced a great effort to finish 5th in the Under 13 Girls race after missing training for a week with illness. However this did not stop the young runner who came home in a time of 11.59. to be first Hampshire runner and help them to 5th in the team result.
In the Senior Women's race, Charlotte Chalwin continued her return to top form with a 7th place in a time of 23.11. In a field of 59 runners Charlotte led the Hampshire contingent of 7 runners in the race and they gained the bronze medals.
Hampshire had a good day in fact winning medals in 6 of the age groups with 4 of the 8 runners allowed in each category scoring. The performances of all the Clubs runners were up to standard with Charlie Coveney 43rd in the U13 Boys while Sienna Richardson finished 60th in the U15 Girls race.
There was another strong field in the U15 Boys race and Ben White placed 49th and Nathan Lane 63rd. Joshua Kemp led our trio of runners in the U17 Men's race finishing 34th, Alex Lakeland was next 41st and Oli Morgan 50th.
Back to the Senior Women's race and Gemma Bigg came in as a late substitute for Freya Davis who withdrew with illness,
