ATHLETES IN ACTION AT WORMWOOD SCRUBS

BMHAC fielded teams in most of the South of England Cross Country Relays, held at Wormwood Scrubs, West London.

e courses were ranged in length from 2K to 3K and fairly flat but gave athletes the chance to get used to cross country running at the beginning of the season. With Clubs from all over the South East of England competing, the quality of competition was high and most races had 40 + teams racing. The Clubs youngsters acquitted themselves well and notched up some promising performances.
Moving through the age groups the under 13 Girls had Macy Connolly 2nd on the 1st leg with a 7m 39s clocking and backed by Charlotte Vickers running 8.47 and Sophie Yates 8.59 they finished 15th of 49 teams that started, Malinda New also ran in an complete B team running 9.01.
The under 13 Boys had 43 teams in their race and lead off runner Charlie Coveney finished 10th on leg 1.with a time of 7.43 and followed by Freddie Eason running 8.10 and William Edwards 8.39 the team finished 14th. The B team in the same race finished 27th, Thomas Carroll running 8.39, Jack Breeds 9.01 and Charlie Ellaway 8.56. In a C team Nickson Vermeer ran 10.35 on his debut.
A total of 51 teams started the under 15 Girls race and Sienna Richardson led off the Club’s A team and finished 11th, Then followed by Isabelle Law recording 8.04 and Grace Kirby 8.39 they finished 15th. The B team of Harriet Duncombe 8.46, Megan Hope 9.15 and Elisa Hill 10.15 finished 36th.
The under 15 Boys also had 51 teams in their race and finished 14th, their team was Nathan Lane who was timed at 7.07, Oliver Marshall 7.29 and Sam Kemp who had a great last leg going under 7 mins with 6.58. The B team with Jack Hedderly 7.43, Alex Heath 8.07 and Tom Yates 7.35 finish 30th after their 3 legs and for a C team Louie Lamport ran 8.54.
Josh Kemp led the under 17 team off in their 3 x 3K race and finished on leg 1 in 10th running 10.52, on Leg 2 Alex Lakeland ran 11.15 and Oli Morgan followed with 11.22 and the team finished 10th of 37 For the B team Cameron Coveney ran 11.28 and Stefan O’Loughnane 12.18.
Finally on a sunny and dry afternoon Maddie Deadman brought the under 20 Women’s team home 1st on leg 1 running 8.25 and with Catherine Edwards running 9.38 and Macy Watson 9.39 the team narrowly missed out on medals finishing 4th.
